Spring City Toys For Children (Now-12/9) — Spring City Toys for Children currently have applications available for pickup at the Spring City locations of Cash Express and Volunteer Electric as well as at the Spring City Municipal Building on Front Street. Those wishing to make donations may do so at Simply Bank’s Spring City branch or by contacting Kelly Lee at 423-280-8534. Deadline to return applications is Monday, Dec. 9. Angel Trees will be set up at the Spring City branches of Simply Bank and SouthEast Bank after Nov. 29 for those wishing to participate in the toy drive.
Hygiene Drive for School Students (Now-12/20) — Hygiene items are being collected to assist local elementary, middle and high school students through Dec. 20. Items sought are toothbrushes & toothpaste, mouthwash, deodorant, soap or body wash, shampoo & conditioner, shavers, toilet paper, feminine hygiene products as well as various cleaning products. Locations to drop off these items includes the Rhea County Welcome Center, First Bank, The Herald-News, Amedisys, The Courtyard, Money Concepts, ECIT Realty, the Rhea County United Way office and Simply Bank.
Grandview Community Center Meeting (12/5) — The Grandview Community Center, located at the top of Grandview Mountain in the old school building, will meet on Thursday, Dec.. 5, beginning with a covered dish dinner at 6 p.m. followed by the meeting at 7 p.m. This meeting date is due to holiday season. The group meets each fourth Thursday of the month to discuss community concerns and to share information. Elected officials regularly attend these meetings.
Rhea County Republican Party Meeting Postponed (12/5) — The Rhea County Republican Party’s monthly meeting for December has been postponed until Thursday, Jan, 9.
Christmas Gala Dinner & Concert at Tennessee Valley Theatre (12/7) — The Tennessee Valley Theater, located at 184 West Jackson Avenue in Spring City, will host a Christmas Gala Dinner and Concert on Saturday, Dec. 7 beginning at 6 p.m. A dinner of roast pork or roast beef, mashed potatoes, green beans, rolls, dessert and a beverage will be served. The Agee Family will be performing a Christmas concert following the meal. Tickets are $20 by reservation only. Kiuka Volunteer Fire Department Fundraiser Breakfast (12/7) — The Kiuka Volunteer Fire Department will hold a Fundraiser Breakfast on Saturday, Dec. 7, from 7 to 10 a.m. EST at Walden’s Ridge Community Center, located at 5364 Dayton Mountain Highway in Dayton. Everyone is invited to attend.
Spring City Lions Club Meeting (12/9) — The Spring City Lions Club will meet Monday, Dec. 9, at 6 p.m. at the City Hall. The club meets the second Monday of each month.
Watts Bar Retirees Association (12/9) — Watts Bar Retirees Association will meet Monday, Dec. 9, in the Family Life Center of Spring City United Methodist Church beginning at 10:30 am. A free Christmas buffet will be provided for each paid member and one guest. Cost of Membership is $15 per year. Dayton Lions Club Meeting (12/12) — The Dayton Lions Club will meet on Thursday, Dec. 12, at Amigo Restaurant, located at 4285 Rhea County Highway in Dayton, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Meetings are held the second and fourth Thursday of each month.
Country Music Night at Walden’s Ridge Community Center (12/13) — The Walden’s Ridge Community Center, located at 5364 Dayton Mountain Highway in Dayton, will hold a Country Music Night on Friday, Dec. 13, beginning at 7 p.m. The Kiuka Volunteer Fire Department will provide concessions. Admission is $5 per person and children under six will be admitted free. All proceeds will benefit the community center and the fire department.
Christmas at the Spring City Depot (12/14) — The Town of Spring City will hold their annual Christmas at the Depot featuring the 56th annual Christmas Parade on Saturday, Dec. 14, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event will include vendors, music, home and business decorating contests and a children’s pageant.
Dayton Lodge #512 F. & A.M. Meeting (12/16) — Dayton Lodge #512 F. & A.M. will meet on Monday, Dec. 16, beginning at 7 p.m. at their Lodge, located on Second Avenue in Dayton. Lodge #512 meets the first and third Monday of each month
Daughters of the American Revolution Meeting (12/19) — The Rhea-Craig Chapter of the American Revolution will meet on Thursday, Dec. 19, at the hold of Marcia Long, beginning at 10 a.m. Carrie Ann Bright will serve as hostess. Spring City American Legion Post 203 Meeting (12/21) — Spring City American Legion Post 203 monthly meeting will not be held for the month of December. In lieu of the meeting, the group will prepare food boxes for distribution to the community’s veterans and families on Dec. 21. Post 203 meets on the third Thursday of each month.
