Operation Christmas Child — First Baptist Church of Dayton, located at 231 Third Avenue, will be a drop off location for Operation Christmas Child’s annual Christmas Shoe Box Gifts. Under the direction of Samaritan’s Purse Ministries, gift-filled shoe boxes are collected and sent to children that would normally not receive a Christmas gift. Gift suggestions are school supplies, small toys, hygiene items, socks, T-shirts, hair clips, etc. Please do not include chocolate, any form of liquids, lotions, toothpaste, toy guns and knives or war toys. For more information, call the church office at 775-0255. Drop off begins Monday, Nov. 18 and last day for drop off will be Sunday, Nov. 25. Boxes and instruction brochure along with labels are available at the church.

Hygiene Drive for School Students (Now-12/20) — Hygiene items are being collected to assist local elementary, middle and high school students through Dec. 20. Items sought are toothbrushes & toothpaste, maouthwash, deoderant, soap or body wash, shampoo & conditioner, shavers, toilet paper, feminine hygiene products as well as various cleaning products. Locations to drop off these items includes the Rhea County Welcome Center, First Bank, The Herald-News, Amedisys, The Courtyard, Money Concepts, ECIT Realty, the Rhea County United Way office and Simply Bank.

Rhea County Historical and Genealogical Society Meeting (11/17) — The Rhea County Historical and Genealogical Society will meet Sunday, Nov. 17, at the Rhea County Courthouse beginning at 2:30 p.m. Guest speaker will be Dr. Marshall Taylor who will present a program on the history of the Dayton Golf and Country Club. Everyone is invited to attend.

Dayton Lodge #512 F. & A.M. Meeting (11/18) — Dayton Lodge #512 F. & A.M. will meet on Monday, Nov. 18, beginning at 7 p.m. at their Lodge, located on Second Avenue in Dayton. Lodge #512 meets the first and third Monday of each month

Spring City American Legion Post 203 Meeting (11/21) — Spring City American Legion Post 203 will hold their regular monthly meeting on Thursday, Nov. 21, beginning at 6:30 p.m. with a covered dish dinner. Fly-In, Drive-In Breakfast (11/23) — Civil Air Patrol 2A0 (Mark Anton) will host a Fly-In, Drive-In Breakfast from 7:30 to 11 a.m. at the Mark Anton Municipal Airport, located on New Union Road in Dayton on Saturday, Nov. 23. The all-you-can-eat cost is $7 for adults and $4 for children under 10. The event will be held rain or shine.

Mobile Food Pantry (11/26) — The Chattanooga Area Food bank Mobile Food Pantry will be at Dayton Church of God, locatedp at 3314 Rhea County Highway in Dayton, on Tuesday, Nov. 26, from 5 to 7 p.m. Quantities are limited and will be distributed while supplies last. Those attending are asked not to arrive earlier than 4:45 to allow room for the delivery trucks to unload and leave. Recipients must be present to receive food. Patrons receiving food on a recipient’s behalf must present the recipient’s valid I.D., and food stamp card (or disclose recipient’s household income).

Lighting of the Spring City Depot (11/29) — The Town of Spring City will hold their fourth annual Lighting of the Depot on Friday, Nov. 29, beginning at 5:30 p.m. The Spring City Board of Commissioners will be present to turn on the Christmas lights at the Spring City Depot, located on Front Street. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Dayton Lodge #512 F. & A.M. Meeting (12/2) — Dayton Lodge #512 F. & A.M. will meet on Monday, Dec. 2, beginning at 7 p.m. at their Lodge, located on Second Avenue in Dayton. Lodge #512 meets the first and third Monday of each month

Spring City Kiwanis Club Meeting (12/3) — The Spring City Kiwanis Club will meet Tuesday, Dec. 3, at New Beginning Church, located at 141 Clinton Avenue, beginning at 7 p.m. The club meets the first Tuesday of each month.

Grandview Community Center Meeting (12/6) — The Grandview Community Center, located at the top of Grandview Mountain in the old school building, will meet on Thursday, Dec.. 6, beginning with a covered dish dinner at 6 p.m. followed by the meeting at 7 p.m. This meeting date is due to holiday season. The group meets each fourth Thursday of the month to discuss community concerns and to share information. Elected officials regularly attend these meetings.

Dayton American Legion Post 100 & Auxiliary Meeting (12/9) — Dayton American Legion Post 100, located at 378 First Avenue in Dayton, will hold their regular monthly meeting on Monday, Dec. 9, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Attendees are asked to bring a covered dish to share during the fellowship meal. All veterans and their families are welcome to attend. Post 100 meets on the first Monday of each month. Spring City Lions Club Meeting (12/9) — The Spring City Lions Club will meet Monday, Dec. 9, at 6 p.m. at the City Hall. The club meets the second Monday of each month.

Dayton Lions Club Meeting (12/12) — The Dayton Lions Club will meet on Thursday, Dec. 12, at Amigo Restaurant, located at 4285 Rhea County Highway in Dayton, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Meetings are held the second and fourth Thursday of each month.

Youth Talent Show at Walden’s Ridge Community Center (12/13) — The Walden’s Ridge Community Center, located at 5364 Dayton Mountain Highway in Dayton, will hold their Fourth Annual Youth Talent Show on Friday, Dec. 13, beginning at 5 p.m. Admission is $5 per person and children under six will be admitted free. Christmas at the Spring City Depot (12/14) — The Town of Spring City will hold their annual Christmas at the Depot featuring the 56th annual Christmas Parade on Saturday, Dec. 14, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event will include vendors, music, home and business decorating contests and a children’s pageant.
