Harold Donald Travis, 94, of Dayton, passed away Friday morning, Dec. 6, 2019, at his home in Dayton. He was born on Sept. 9, 1925, in Dayton, the son of the late Hubert and Alma Brooks Travis. Harold was also preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Margaret Ann Deford Travis; daughter, Cheryl Woody; son, Donald Travis; infant son, Charles Travis; brothers, Charles and Howard Travis; and sister, Barbara Caduto.
Harold lived in Dayton all of his life. He served his country as a corporal with the US Army during World War II in Germany. He worked for Boilermaker Local 454 in Chattanooga for 33 years. Harold was a member of the former Travis Quartet and served as Sunday school superintendent for over 40 years at Dayton Church of God where he was a lifelong member.
He is survived by his sons, Jerry Travis and Hal (Lona) Travis, both of Dayton; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; his brother, Rev. Jewell Travis, of Dayton; and his sister, Billie Sterling, of Georgia.
Funeral services for Harold will be held Sunday, December 8, 2019, at 3 p.m. in the Vanderwall Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Lane Davis officiating. He will be laid to rest next to his wife in Rhea Memory Gardens with military honors and followed by a white dove release.
