Lamar Strickland, 83, died Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2019 at his home.

A longtime resident of Spring City, Lamar was the son of the late Vandell O. and Lillie Bryant Strickland. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army. Lamar was a dairy farmer for 35 years and, in 1960, he also started Strickland Upholstery, which he continued to operate until recently. He liked to hunt and fish. In his younger days, Lamar was a pitcher on a fast-pitch softball team. Lamar was a member of Wolf Creek Baptist Church in Spring City.

He was preceded in death by his son, Randy Lee “Rooster” Strickland; and grandson, Johnathan Vandell Strickland.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Jewel T. Strickland, of Spring City: children, Mark Strickland and Cathy (Mike) Smith, both of Spring City; grandson, Justin (Chasity) Whitted, of Dayton; granddaughter, Rhonda (Sean) Thomas, of Athens, Tenn.; and great grandson, Bryson Whitted, of Dayton.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Oct. 4, 2019, at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Vaughn Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Forgey and Rev. Dennis Chambers officiating. Interment will be at Spring City Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday, Oct. 4, 2019, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Vaughn Funeral Home.
