William Carlton “Bill” McSpadden, 88, of Dayton, born on Nov. 2, 1931, died Dec. 3, 2019 at CHI Memorial Hospital.

Bill was a lifelong resident of Rhea County and a member of New Union Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Army and was a Korean War veteran. He retired from TWRA after 42 years. Bill loved sitting on his deck, watching the birds and squirrels playing in the yard.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Alberta Potter McSpadden; parents, Fred and Nora Sands McSpadden; brothers, Tom, Clarence, John, James, Frank, Fred and Edgar McSpadden; and sisters, Helen Minor, Bess Hutcheson and Elizabeth McSpadden.

He is survived by his stepchildren, Kathy Potter and Thomas Potter, both of Dayton; granddaughter, Angela Potter (Matt) Barrow, of Decatur, Ala.; sister-in-law, Linda McSpadden, of Dayton; sister, Margaret Cochran, of Virginia Beach, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 7, 2019, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Coulter-Garrison Funeral Home with Dr. Danny Ruehling officiating. Interment will be at Rhea Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends, Saturday, Dec. 7, 2019, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in Bill’s name to the charity of one’s choice.
