Joseph Alexander Powell, 72, of Lenoir City, Tenn., passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 11, 2019, at his home, after a short battle with cancer. Joseph was a U.S. Army Aviation veteran. After the Army, he was a successful corporate pilot of over 40 years and a gentleman horse farmer. Joseph raised some of the finest Arabian show horses in the South. His life passions were flying and raising his show horses.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard Grant Powell and Lucy Motes Powell; sister, Jane Elizabeth Powell.

He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Brenda G. Everett Powell; and son, David L. Powell, both of Lenoir City, Tenn.; two beloved canine family pets, Rusty and Fetus, whom he loved very much; brother, Kenneth G. Powell, of Graysville; sisters, Mary Swafford, of Dayton, Beth Gould and Becky Hart, both of Soddy-Daisy, Tenn., and Linda Roddy of Hixson, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, July 14, 2019, at Brayton Cemetery.
