Born on her family’s farm on Rhea Springs Road outside Spring City, Mary lived in the area her entire life. She proudly traced her ancestry to the First Families of Tennessee. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Spring City and attended Spring City United Methodist Church following her marriage to Homer Boyd “H.B.” Galloway Jr. in 1948.

After selling the business, Mary worked for a time with Bill Hilleary at SSM Industries, but she primarily concentrated her efforts in her roles as a banker’s wife, homemaker, farmer and community volunteer. She was a member of the United Methodist Women and the Spring City Women’s Club. She served on the Spring City and Regional Library Boards and was instrumental in the Spring City Library’s renovation. She worked tirelessly on behalf of the Rhea County Farm Service Agency and the Spring City Cemetery Association.
