The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is currently
holding several public hearings across the country on its proposal to
regulate the handling of coal ash. But despite the catastrophic spill in
December 2008 near Kingston, Tenn., and a request from U.S. Sen. Lamar
Alexander, R-Tenn., to hold a public hearing in Roane County, the EPA
will not be holding any public forums in Tennessee.
Nearly two years ago, almost one billion pounds of coal ash spilled from
a containment area at the Tennessee Valley Authority's Kingston Fossil
Plant, inundating nearby land and waterways in the Kingston area. More

Deborah Ward has been working in schools for nearly seven
years, assisting children, working with parents and helping better the
lives of younger generations. But she is not a teacher.
Nearly everyday, Ward is in schools all across Rhea, Bledsoe and
Sequatchie counties, calling on her nearly 23 years of dental experience
by serving as a dental hygienist for the Tennessee Department of

Though Dayton's Bryan College campus has been swirling
with changes over the last several months, the most obvious change can
be seen by Rhea Countians driving past on Rhea County Highway.
Construction on the private, Christian college's new entrance began in
March of 2009, and though the extensive project will be completed in
phases, work on the on-campus portion of the entryway was finished this
August. More

The officers of the Spring City Police Department will be
conducting separate safety and sobriety checkpoints along with highly
visible saturations in Spring City at various times and/or locations
throughout the city during the month of September.
Spring City officers will be watching for seatbelt usage, the drunk
and/or impaired drivers in an effort to reduce traffic accidents and
fatalities on our roadway. More

Playing in their first District 5-AAA matchup of the season,
the Rhea County High School Golden Eagles did not disappoint.
By focusing on spreading the
ball around on offense and limiting turnovers, the Eagles toppled the Walker Valley High School
Mustangs 42-20 Friday in Rhea County. More

For a second straight week, the Rhea County High School
Golden Eagles freshman football team pulled out a win against a District
5-AAA opponent, this time defeating the Walker Valley High School
Mustangs.
A 269-yard offensive performance by the Eagles and a defensive effort
that limited the Mustangs to 196 total yards secured a 34-8 victory for
the Eagles Monday in Rhea County. More
