Muddy Pumpkin Mud Run set for Oct. 26

The Care Center’s annual Muddy Pumpkin Mud Run is set for Saturday, Oct.26 from 9:30 a.m. until noon in downtown Dayton. The course includes the opportunity to run, crawl, wade and climb over obstacles in the muddy race.

Registration will begin at 9:30 a.m. and runners will choose their pumpkin to run with at 9:45. At 10 a.m. the race will officially begin. Registration fees are $45 per person (T-shirt and other prize included). All those ages 5 and under can run the race free of charge, however they will not receive a T-shirt. Those with a valid college ID can run for $35. Group discount rates are also available at $40 per runner for teams of four or more. Call 423-775-0019 for more info.

An early packet-pick up session will be held on Oct. 25 from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. at the Care Center.

RCHS annual butt sale

The 2020 Rhea County High School Golden Eagle baseball team is hosting its annual boston butt sale. The Eagle Dugout club will be cooking whole, seasoned and smoked boston butts for $40 each with proceeds to benefit the baseball team.

Orders and prepayment are due no later than Friday, Nov. 1 and can be placed with any RCHS baseball player or player’s parent. Cash is preferred but checks can be made out to “Eagle Dugout Club”.

The boston butts can be frozen for future use so make plan to order an extra for your upcoming football tailgate or the holidays. The butts will be available for pick up on Thursday Nov. 7, Friday Nov. 8 and Saturday, Nov. 9

2019 free youth deer hunt registration underway

Youth between the ages of 10-16, who are hunter safety certified and who have never harvested a deer, are eligible to win a spot in what has become an annual special hunt. The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency will host the hunt in conjunction with the opening day of the 2019 Tennessee Young Sportsman Deer Hunt on Saturday, Oct. 26.

 Youth from various regions from across the state have participated in the event held at Buffalo Ridge Refuge in Humphreys County. Last year, 18 young hunters had their first deer harvests.

 A total of 30 young hunters will be selected to participate. The area incorporates a variety of wildlife management practices and totals more than 2,000 acres of prime deer habitat. Treestands will be provided including three that are handicap accessible.

A Friday night cookout will be held. Sites will be available for those who wish to camp (participants must provide their own camping gear). Breakfast and lunch will also be provided Saturday.

 TWRA will hold a drawing and the winners will be notified by Oct. 18. Confirmation packets will be sent to the successful participants that will include directions and a list of items to bring as well as a list of area hotels. Winning hunters are responsible for providing the appropriate Tennessee hunting license and must be accompanied by a non-hunting adult at least 21 years of age or older.

Sale Creek Football to host Pro-Wrestling event

Sale Creek Middle/High School will host a fundraiser pro-wrestling event on Saturday, Oct. 26 beginning at 7:30 p.m. The event will take place at SCHS located at 211 Patterson Road, Sale Creek.

Chattanooga’s own hometown wrestler, Tank , will be coming out of retirement to host the event and compete, along with former NWA World Heavyweight champion and Bakewell’s own Jax Dane. Also in action will be independent stars Chris Dickinson, Vordell Walker, Anthony Henry, JD Drake, and Curt Stallion - many of whom have recently appeared on the WWE network.

Tickets are $15 for floor seats or $10 for General admission bleacher seats and can be purchased at the door, from Sale Creek football players, or online at SCIWrestling.com. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., concessions will be available for purchase and proceeds will benefit the Sale Creek football programs.

Upward signups now underway

First Baptist Church of Dayton is taking registrations for the 2019-20 season of Upward Basketball and Cheerleading for children ages 5 through 6th grade. Cost per child is $60 and deadline to register is November 9. Registration forms may be picked up and dropped off in the church office between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
