Lady Eagles rally past Polk County, 4-1

Rhea County Lady Eagle soccer continued a solid start to the season last night with a 4-1 road victory over Polk County. The Lady Wildcats struck first but Rhea County scored four unanswered to take the win.

Sophomore Sophie White paced the locals with two goals and an assist, senior Tori Mitchell pitched in one goal and two assists and sophomore Michaela Reeves also found the back of the net. Freshman Shaylie Needham tallied one assist in the game as well.

Senior goalkeeper Mallory Hampton was again a lock down force in the net with 10 saves. Head coach Katherine Bradley said she is very proud of the team's hard work so far, overcoming the loss of two key seniors (Hannah Deakins and Mikinna Quick) in the preseason due to injury.

"We're definitely missing them but I have been very impressed with Sophie and Tori rising to the challenge. They've had some great combos and are working well together," she said.

Rhea County's road warriors wrap up a six-game set away from home on Thursday when the Lady Eagles visit White County in a 6 p.m. CST/7 p.m. EST kickoff. Rhea hosts Cookeville at Bill Horton Field on Tuesday, Sept. 10 at 7 p.m.
