Though their respective seasons have been over
for some time, the best Rhea County spring athletes are still being honored with all-district,
all-region and all-state awards.
Wednesday night, Lady Eagle slugger Charlie Wooden competed
in the Hardee's Tennessee-Georgia All-Star game at Jim Frost Stadium in Chattanooga.
Wooden,
who was named to the District 5-AAA all-district team as well as the Chattanooga Times Free Press
Best of Preps, hit the only home run of the double header.
The Lee University signee
helped the Tennessee All-Stars win game one 2-0 and game two 12-10.
Fellow Lady Eagle
all-district selections included junior shortstop Cassidy Price and senior catcher/second baseman
Jenny Keener.
From the baseball diamond, Rhea County High School had two seniors earn
all-district honors: left fielder Jacob Moffett and catcher Tyler Latham.
Latham was also
named to the all-tournament team for his play in the post-season district tourney, as well as
earning a spot on Best of Preps.
For their work on the tennis court this season, Kelly Lane,
Matthew Keylon and Adam Roddy earned all-district spots.
Lane went on to make the all-state
team after a state semi-final appearance in this year's TSSAA Spring Fling. He was also selected to
the Best of Preps as well as earning the title of Christian Athlete of the Year from the Chattanooga
area FCA.
Tennis coach Micah Ruehling was named the district coach of the year and received
the Legacy Builder Coach's Award from the Southeast Tennessee FCA.
Lady Eagle tennis players
Brooke Smith and Lindsey Catlett earned all-district honors, as did senior soccer player Josh
Davis.
Additionally, Rhea Middle School's Hunter McClendon, Skyler Everett and Jalen Smith
were named to their all-conference team.
