Rhea County minor leaguer Cory Gearrin and his Mississippi Braves (30-35) teammates will take on the Chattanooga Lookouts (26-38) in a five-game series this week.

The first game is scheduled for Wednesday, June 17, at 6:15 p.m., followed by Thursday, Friday and Saturday night games at 6:15 p.m. each and an afternoon game on Sunday at 1:15 p.m.

Gearrin, a 2004 Rhea County High School graduate, lowered his ERA to 2.89 with a pair of scoreless performances over the weekend.

The right-handed reliever pitched two shut out innings against the Birmingham Barons (43-20) on Friday night, giving up only one hit and striking out one.

Even so, the Braves lost 6-2 following a flawed start by Ryne Reynoso, who gave up seven hits and five runs in the first five innings.

Gearrin earned an extended stay on the mound Monday after Braves starting pitcher Edgar Osuna gave up nine runs in four innings.

Though Mississippi lost 10-0,Gearrin faced only 10 batters in three innings, allowing just two hits and no earned runs.

Gearrin, who was promoted to the Class AA Mississippi Braves on  May 28 from the Class A-Advanced Myrtle Beach Pelicans, boasts a  combined ERA of 1.54 for 2009 after pitching 23.1 innings.
