A Dayton man was indicted by the Rhea County Grand Jury last week for sexually assaulting a young girl in his care.
The young girl, now 13, contacted the Tennessee Department of Children's Services in February and told counselors there that she was sexually assaulted on many occasions beginning when she was 8 or 9 years old. Investigators for TDCS then contacted Chief Deputy Charles Byrd who investigates crimes against children for the Rhea County Sheriff's Department.
Byrd questioned Keith "Marty" Kramer, 31, on May 7. After several hours, Kramer eventually admitted to sexually assaulting the girl several times over the years while he was supposed to be babysitting her at his Dayton Mountain home, according to Byrd.
Byrd presented the case to the Rhea County Grand Jury June 4, and the grand jury returned an original indictment against Kramer on one count of rape of a child and one count of aggravated sexual battery.
Kramer, who has already entered counseling, was released on a $5,000 bond.
