A Dayton man was indicted Monday for allegedly raping and robbing a 77-year-old woman last June.
Nathan Dyer, 45, was indicted on charges of aggravated rape, rape, aggravated burglary and aggravated robbery. He remains in the Rhea County Jail in lieu of a $35,000 bond.
According to a report by Jeff Hill, about 1 a.m. on June 28, 2002, a Memorial Street woman heard someone enter her home. She told police a man was wearing a white shirt pulled over his head and white socks covering his arms and hands, grabbed her by the throat and put her on her knees.
The man told her that he belonged to a gang, was an ex-convict and asked for her money, the police report stated.
After allegedly raping the elderly woman, Dyer took some money and left the home, Hill's report stated.
Police later found white socks lying in a ditch near the woman's home believed to be Dyer's.
The Herald-News does not publish the names of victims of violent sexual crimes.
