Spring City woman indicted on 5 counts of rape of a child

Last updated: 9:58 AM, 07/08/2010

The Rhea County Grand Jury indicted a Spring City woman last week on five counts of rape of a child.

The mother of a 10-year-old boy in Spring City contacted Sgt. Matt Rose with the Rhea County Sheriff's Department on Feb. 7. She told Rose that a Theresa Holloway, 28, was an old friend of hers and had been staying with her family for two or three months.

The mother told Rose about a conversation she had with another woman in early February. The mother said the woman told her she had heard that Holloway had been sleeping with a teenage boy. The mother went home and began questioning her 10-year-old son about Holloway.

The boy told his mother that he and Holloway had sex on several occasions, according to Detective Rocky Potter, who investigates crimes against children for the sheriff's department.

Potter arranged for the boy to be interviewed by counselors at the Children's Advocacy Center in Chattanooga. Afterward, Potter and a caseworker for Children's Protective Services also conducted interviews with the boy.

On Feb. 19 Potter interviewed Holloway, and she gave him a statement.

The Rhea County Grand Jury indicted Holloway on Monday for five counts of rape of a child, a Class A felony. She was arrested on Wednesday and was released on $20,000 bond later that day. She will be arraigned in Rhea County Circuit Court on Friday.

The boy is now receiving counseling through the Department of Children's Services, according to Potter.
