Clarence Nelson

The Rhea County Grand Jury recently indicted a Rhea County man with three counts of aggravated sexual battery of a child, according to Rhea County Sheriff’s Department Investigator Rocky Potter.

Clarence Nelson is facing the three counts of aggravated sexual battery after an investigation by the Rhea County Sheriff’s Department.

Potter said that the investigation into Nelson began in March 2021. He said that girl under the age of 8-years-old, who had been in Nelson’s care at one point had told a family member that “inappropriate things have been happening.”

Potter said that the alleged victim was then interviewed at the Rhea County Child Advocacy Center and that another child witness was also interviewed at the advocacy center. Potter said he gathered information and presented it to the Rhea County Grand Jury earlier this month.

Nelson was indicted by the grand jury on Oct. 4 and was alter arrested and booked into the Rhea County Jail. According to jail records, his bond was set at $100,000, and he has since bonded out of jail.
