Helen May Archer, 86, of Hixson, Tenn., went to be with Jesus on Monday morning, Sept. 21, 2020. She passed away peacefully in her home near her family and friends.
Helen was born on April 4, 1934, in Ashtabula, Ohio, the daughter of the late Theodore and Catherine Bush. Helen was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 64 years, Vern Archer, who passed away this past November.
Helen lived in Hixson, Tenn., since 1990 and previously lived in Dayton. She was an Ashtabula High School graduate Class of 1952 and earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology at Bryan College in 1974. Helen was a dedicated civil servant, spending several years as a social worker for the state of Tennessee. She also was an incredibly talented event planner, florist, and decorator. She was known for her strength, hospitality, silly antics, and her unwavering faith in Jesus Christ. Helen was a member of Grace Bible Church in Dayton, and Abba’s House and Dallas Bay Baptist Church in Hixson, Tenn.
Helen is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Crider, of Hixson, Tenn.; her son, Dale (Annette) Archer, of Fuquay Varina, N.C.; four grandchildren, Joshua Harmon, Julia (Michael) Kurschner, Courtney Archer and Carrie (Brian) Cook; and three great-grandchildren, Liam Kurschner, David Kurschner and Noah Kurschner.
Visitation for Helen and the family will be held Saturday, Sept. 26, 2020, from 2 to 3 p.m. with the service immediately to follow at the Chattanooga Funeral Home North Chapel in Hixson, Tenn. She will be laid to rest beside her husband in Randolph, N.Y.
