Robert D. “Radio” Hillis Jr., 77, died Tuesday, July 7, 2020, at his home.
Born on Jan. 12, 1943, in Warren County, Tenn., Robert was the son of the late Robert D. and Frances Hanes Hillis Sr. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving his country during the Vietnam War. Robert moved from South Pittsburg, Tenn., to the Spring City community in 1975. He retired from TVA–Watts Bar after 23 years of service. Robert was a member of the American Legion Post No. 100, VFW–Post No. 4708, DAV, AmVet, Vietnam Veteran’s Association and the TVA VA. He attended Spring City Church of Christ.
Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Flonnie Edwards Hillis.
Survivors include his stepson, Dwight Ray, of Grandview; stepdaughters, Kim (Mike) Fuson, of Spring City, and Tracy Luna, of Gallatin, Tenn.; brother, Lonnie Hillis, of Nashville, Tenn.; and special grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services with military honors will be held on Friday, July 10, 2020, at 12 noon in the chapel of Vaughn Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Forgey officiating. Interment will be at New Union Cemetery in McMinnville, Tenn. The family will receive friends Friday from 11 a.m. to 12 noon at the funeral home.
