Oliver R. “Ollie” Cox, 75, of Spring City, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2019, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Morgantown on March 16, 1944, a son of the late James O. and Pearl Cox. Ollie was an active member and Sunday school teacher at Bethel Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his stepmother, Blanche “Nanny” Cox, of Dayton.
Ollie leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife of 42 years, Wanda Cox; three sons, Tommy R (Cathleen) Cox, of Spring City, Eugene (Tina) Smith, of Dyersburg, Tenn., and Jeff Meuret, of Spring City; three daughters, Barbara (Stacy) Harris, of Spring City, Edie (Jerry) Shaver, of Dayton, and Gail (Leon) Hitchcox, of Pikeville, Tenn.; 16 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; numerous other extended family members and church family; and a host of special friends.
A celebration of his life is planned for Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2019, at 4 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church, located at 152 Roy Fine Lane in Spring City, with Stacy Harris officiating.
The family will receive friends at the church two hours prior to the service from 2 p.m. until service time.
