James Thomas “Tom” Bishop, 78, of Dayton, passed away on Tuesday, June 15, 2021, at Erlanger Hospital. He was a lifelong resident of Rhea County and of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed working on cars, mowing grass, and was an excellent cook. In his younger years, he enjoyed fishing. He worked at Shaw Industries for many years and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Robert L. Bishop and Ova Lee Matthews Bishop.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Bishop; children, James Bishop Jr. of California, Robert N. Bishop of California and Tauni Muse of Dalton, Ga.; stepsons, Tracy Wilkey and Terry Wilkey of Dayton; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 19, 2021, at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Coulter-Garrison Funeral Home with Rev. Clyde Fitzgerald officiating. Interment will follow at Spring City Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends Saturday, June 19, 2021, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
