RMS BASEBALL TEAM COMPLETES BUSY WEEK

The Rhea Middle School Eagle baseball team completed a busy week, as the Eagles played Athens City Middle School, in Athens on Monday, hosted Cleveland Middle for a doubleheader on Tuesday at Rhea County High School and then hosted McCallie on Thursday, at Delaware Fields, in Dayton.

The Eagles fell 4-0 to Athens, lost to Cleveland 10-6 in game one, then suffered a 7-5 setback in game two. RMS then fell 8-4 to McCallie.

RMS vs. McCallie

McCallie seized an early, first inning 3-1 lead, and then went up 4-1 in the top of the third inning, but the Eagles rallied in the bottom of the third, tying the game at 4-4 headed to the fourth.

The teams held each other scoreless in the fourth and fifth innings, but McCallie added two runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh to secure the win.

McCallie tallied six hits to Rhea Middle’s two. Chauncey Odum and William Bishop had one hit apiece for the Eagles. Blake James recorded one RBI. Run scorers included Corydon Butler (1), Casen Kinney (2) and Odum.

RMS vs. Cleveland (Gm. 1)

Cleveland capitalized on an 8-run, third inning to help secure the win, as RMS tallied six hits to Cleveland’s five.

J.P. Brannen led the Eagles with two hits, as Dakota Kilby, Baron Bruehl, Bishop and Braylon Geer recorded one hit apiece. Brannen had two three RBIs, Kilby had two and James had one. Run scorers included Levi Love (1), Brannen (1), Kinney (1), Bryce Garrison (1), Bishop (1) and Geer(1).

RMS vs. Cleveland (Gm. 2)

A defensive highlight for the Eagles came in the form of a triple play by Rhea Middle’s third baseman, Brannen. With runners on base, Brannen caught a line drive in the air, touch third and then threw out the runner at second to complete the rare play.

Cleveland won the hit battle 7-3, with Kinney, Odum and Thomas Henderson recording one hit apiece for the Eagles. Kinney, Odum, Bishop and Kilby each had an RBI. Run scorers included Kinney (1), Odum (1), Henderson (1), Garrison (1) and Kilby (1).

RMS vs. Athens

Despite being held scoreless, the Eagles outhit Athens 4-3, with Butler leading RMS with two hits, while Brannen and Odum tallied one apiece.

JV game

The RMS junior varsity club battled but fell 4-2 to the Athens JV team. Each team had six hits. James, Kinney, Conner Mitchell, Garrison, Keaton Clift and Foster Evans recorded one hit apiece. Butler and Kinney had one RBI each. RMS run scorers included James (1) and Mitchell (1).
