The Rhea County High School Lady Eagle tennis team officially opened the 2020 season on Thursday at Stone Memorial High School, and brought home a 9-0 District 6-AAA win over the Lady Panthers.

In singles, Maddie Smith, Hanna Logsdon, Sophie Kay and Isa Holcomb each defeated their opponents 8-0 to garner four match points for the Lady Eagles. Keylee Morgan dropped her opponent 8-1 and Ava Travis beat her opponent 8-2 for the Lady Eagles to tack on two more match points.

In doubles, the Rhea duo of Morgan and Travis blanked their opponents 8-0, while Smith and MaleeKate Ballard won 8-1, as did the Rhea pair of Logsdon and Ansley Thedford.

In an extra junior varsity match, Holcomb and Kay delivered a 6-0 victory over their opponents.

Lady Eagle head coach, Lil Andrews, was pleased with her team’s first outing of the season.

“We were surprised to be able to play this match [due to weather conditions], but Crossville was dry enough to play,” said Andrews. “It was a good start to the season.”
