The Spring City Middle School Bulldogs’ baseball team celebrated eighth grade night with a 5-0 shutout win at home over Coalfield Middle School on Tuesday night.

The win improved the Bulldogs’ overall record to 11-4, heading into the district tournament, which is set to begin on Thursday, April 29.

In a pregame ceremony, SCMS recognized and honored eighth graders Robbie Burns, Ethan Mosley, Alex Latshaw, Caleb Carr, Carter Jolley, Bradley Hall and Cooper Brackett.

The Bulldogs scored two runs in the first inning, following back-to-back triples to deep right field by Jolley and Brackett, who eventually scored to give SCMS a 2-0 lead headed to the second.

Three insurance runs in the third were enough to secure the win for the Bulldogs, as Jolley, Brackett and Carr crossed the plate for SCMS.

The Bulldogs tallied eight hits in the win, with Jolley and Brackett leading with two apiece. Other hitters for SCMS included Carr, Burns, Latshaw and Tyler Lee.

On Monday, April 19, the Bulldogs traveled to Coalfield for the first of the two-game district series and suffered a 9-8 setback.
