The Rhea County High School Golden Eagle junior varsity football team improved its record to 3-0 on the season, as the Eagles captured a 28-14 home victory over the Stone Memorial Panthers at Eagle Stadium on Monday night.
The Eagles jumped out to a 14-0 first quarter lead, with TD runs from Caleb Odell and Kade Houston. Odell’s was a 39-yard run and Houston’s went for one yard.
The Panthers answered in the second quarter with a 10-yard TD pass and the Eagles led 14-6 at the half.
Odell crossed the goal line again in the third quarter with a 6-yard TD run. After Cole Ruehling’s PAT kick, the Eagles led 21-6.
Stone Memorial answered with a 34-yard TD run in the third quarter. After the good 2-point conversion, Rhea led 21-14 headed to the fourth quarter.
Bryce Dupre took a quarterback sneak to the end zone on a 41-yard TD run with 38 seconds left in the game. Ruehling’s PAT made it 28-14, which closed out the scoring for the game.
The Eagle JV will host the Ooltewah Owls on Monday, Oct. 12, at Eagle Stadium/Bill Horton Field, with kickoff set for 7 p.m.
