Eagle golfers sweep McMinn teams in quad-match

The Rhea County High School Eagle golf team hosted a quad-match on Tuesday at the Dayton Golf and Country Club, which included McMinn Central, Sale Creek and McMinn County.

The Eagles swept the McMinn schools to improve to 5-3 on the season. Two members of the Sale Creek boys’ team competed, but per TSSAA rule, a team must have four scores to count in the match.

The Lady Eagles fell to both McMinn schools, as Sale Creek didn’t bring a girls’ team. The Rhea girls slipped to 0-6 on the season.

The Rhea boys combined team score was 185 to McMinn County’s 191 and McMinn Central’s 206.

Matthew Rothwell led the Eagles with a 41, followed by Brayden Reel’s 44, Nolan Purser’s 47 and Aaron Heimel’s 53.

The Rhea girls combined team score was 108 to McMinn County’s 95 and McMinn Central’s 97.

Becca Rogers led the Lady Eagles with a 53 and Nikkita Pilcher had a 55.
